Company history

The Ducato has been in production since 1981 and has been repeatedly redesigned, most recently into a distinct generation that shares technology across the range. Its importance is not status but scale: a very large proportion of European semi-integrated and integrated motorhomes sit on this chassis.

The practical consequence for an owner is parts and service. A workshop can source a Ducato component in most countries on the continent without special ordering, which is not true of narrower platforms.

It is also rebadged and sold under other names, so a coach may carry a manufacturer's badge while being fundamentally a Ducato. That matters for service, and it sometimes matters for resale.

Product lines

LineWhat it is
Semi-integrated motorhomesPeer and overcab bodies built on the chassis: the largest group of Ducato-based vehicles.
Integrated motorhomesFull-height bodies on the same chassis, usually with a higher specification.
Campervan conversionsCut and fitted high-roof bodies built by converters on the same platform.

What to check before buying

  • Check whether the coach is a Ducato in origin even when the badge says something else, and ask about service intervals for the chassis specifically.
  • Payload matters more than raw power. The body is heavy before you add water, which is where most of these vehicles go over their rating.
