Company history

Jayco was founded in 1965 by Bertram and Randall O'Gara in Morgantown, Indiana, and remained family-controlled for most of its life. The name is an initials construction from the founders' surnames. It is one of the larger manufacturers in the American market that has never been taken over by a public group.

The company builds Class A, Class B and Class C motorhomes plus travel trailers and fifth-wheels, which means its range covers practically every format an American buyer might be shown.

The same family brand also runs a larger operation in the southern hemisphere under the Jayco Australia name. That operation is a separate business with its own range, its own standards and its own market conditions, not an export version of the Indiana product.

What to check before buying

  • Jayco Australia and Jayco of Indiana are different companies. Spare parts, warranty and model availability do not transfer between them.
  • As a smaller producer than the market leader, check how long model lines stay in production if you intend to keep the vehicle for a decade.
