Company history
Foton builds commercial vehicles and was founded in 1996. Its van and light-truck chassis are widely used as the base for recreational vehicles in China, both by Foton itself and by other bodies building on the same chassis.
The role it plays is therefore closer to that of a chassis and platform supplier to the RV market than to that of a recreational-vehicle brand. Understanding that distinction helps when comparing vehicles built on different bases.
As with any commercial chassis, the question for a buyer is what the body builder did with it: the driveline and the habitation are separate risks with separate quality.
