Company history

Rapido was founded in 1985 by the Bresson brothers near Strasbourg, on the French side of the Rhine, and grew by building motorhomes on widely available chassis rather than developing its own. That decision made the range easy to service across Europe and easy to sell on.

The company's range is one of the widest in the European market, spanning compact campervans through to large integrated coaches, and it distributes through a large dealer network, which is unusual outside the German market.

Because the chassis come from Fiat and Ford, and most of the habitation is built to a consistent standard, a Rapido is comparable unit to unit in a way that is not true of every European manufacturer.

What to check before buying

  • Confirm which chassis a specific model uses. The same model name has appeared on different bases over the years, and the payload and service story change with it.
  • Coverage for a van-based coach depends on the chassis maker's network first and the converter's second.
